Babies Are Fun!!!

Porter's "drag around" quilt is ready to be pressed, squared, layered, quilted, and bound! I always like to give new babies one of my sock beagles, too.

Another one of my favorite little things to add to a new baby's present is a little fabric picture book (as found in Gwen Marston's book). Heck, I even like to make them for grown-ups! They are so fun and quick. I have a hard time resisting cowboy fabric (as well as Dick and Jane fabric and paperdoll fabric) and have a decent stash of it. One more "necessity" for the baby's loot bag? A KC Chiefs sweatshirt, of course!!!

Porter's quilt top looks terrific - I thought it looked a little stark yesterday before you put the borders on but they've really just finished it off - lovely!. Really like the little fabric book, where did you get the instructions from?

I have been wanting to make a few fabric books for myself. I am glad to know I am not the only one that thinks they are not for kids only!

LOVE your sock beagle -- is there a pattern or instructions somewhere? Donna D., Columbus, Ohio

Donna, it is an original that a friend and I came up with in the early 70s!!! Very easy. You use two socks--whatever size you want the finished puppy to be. Email me if you'd like better directions.

Didn't that turn out cute?! Are those folded flowers that I see in one block?

Yesterday when we picked up a quilt at the long arm quilters we ran into another quilter delivering some quilt tops. She related a story about making personalized quilts for some little ones in her family--that was lovely. What struck me was her parting statement---they, meaning the parents, hung them on the wall and won't let the kids use them. How sad to admire a quilt from afar when they are such textile, touchy-feely things. I asked her if she had said something to the effect that "I want them to be used. If they wear out, I promise I'll make another one" She had and they still went on the wall.

Her husband even piped up when she was naming some things she had used to personalize them for the boys or girls so you could tell he was proud of her accomplishments.

SO I hope Porter will be allowed to drag his around. Clever items you are including.

Both the quilt and the beagle are so cute! And using socks to make the beagle with means if it gets spit up on, it's easy to wash. :)
