Playtime

Taking a break from borders and backings and bindings oh my, I decided this week to use my embroidery machine. It tends to be a very expensive doorstop if I don't remind myself to use it once in awhile! I am a huge fan of Laurel Burch's art and when she started designing fabric a few years ago, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!!! As is often the case, I usually think her fabric is too pretty to cut into. I embroidered four of her cat designs from a Bernina card and will most likely make a bag with this fabric and these kitties. That is, if I can make myself run a rotary cutter over this luscious stuff.

Another diversion this week has been doll quilts. I don't have any daughters or granddaughters--I just like doll quilts!!! I found this little vintage Scotty pattern and hand-embroidered two of them yesterday at my mini group. Love to embroider by hand. I have had the Scotty fabric in my stash for a while--just a FQ. Wish I could find some more of it, it is so darn cute. I kind of have a thing for Scotties right now. Don't know why, I've never owned one. I blame it on Mary Engelbreit LOL! I need to add a little more on to this quilt--either squares or a border. Then I can handquilt it in front of the TV this weekend. Callin' it McPatch for now.

Hope everyone in Blogland has a super weekend! Sew long!

Hi Vera. Love the Laurel Burch fabrics. I saw some buttons yesterday by her. I was tempted to buy them, but resisted. I have several pieces of her jewelry.

Thanks for dropping by my place too.

So many blogs, so little time!

I'm hoping to take a break from borders for a while too - one of my least favorite parts of quilting. Another is loading quilts on the longarm but did that today too!

I haven't made any doll quilts but had done a few simple quilts for dogs and cats. I don't do many wallhangings and it's nice to work on small projects now and then.

OMG - I was just in a local sewing store looking at new sewing machines and there on the wall in the classroom was the most gorgeous quilt with Laurel Burch embroidered cats. The sashing was of course also LB - can't wait to see how yours comes out.

Oh, I don't have that fabric but I did have quite a bit of old fabric with scotties on it. I'm positive I don't have any of it any more - I think I got rid of what was left last summer. Otherwise I'd send you another care package! This was from the 80's sometime - not cute vintage style like yours. Still nice however. Probably VIP or Cranston - House of Fabrics time.

Love your Scotty dogs quilt. It looks like it was very easy to put together. I am a recently retired teacher as well.

Oh, I love the Scottie dog quilt. I'm so glad to see embroidery making a comeback - that was my first attempt at sewing. I like the embroidery machine (and yes, it does make an expensive doorstop), but there is something about the look of hand embroidery that an embroidery machine just can't duplicate.

Very cute - love the Scotties. I have an overlocker that is still in it's box...

It took me a while to catch on to Laurel Burch (I had to learn to like bright colors), but now I'm sold. Just recently picked up a piece to use for the focus fabric on another string quilt. But you're right; it's hard to cut into!

Really gorgeous quilts! Good job!

Wow, both projects look great. Hand embroiderey is very close to my heart . . . it's the first 'crafty' thing I learned as a young girl from my grandma *s*

Oh the scotty quilt is so darling. Just took a look on my shelves; thought I had that scotty fabric that I could send you but didn't see it.
