Moodling

I love to collect quotes. When I retired four years ago, a friend gave me a little Mary Engelbreit journal titled, "Nothing Is Worth More Than This Day." I have used it ever since to write down quotes that affect me. This is one I came across some time ago on the internet, "Imagination needs moodling--long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering." I had never heard the word "moodling" before. It's not in the dictionary! So I guess the author (Brenda Ueland) coined it. I think it really describes what I have been doing in my sewing room lately!! Lots of inefficient idling and puttering. But what fun. I am proud to report that yesterday I got both the inner and outer borders sewn onto Lee's Surrender--and the backing sewn together!!! It is ready to hand off to my longarmer. As a reward to myself, I "moodled" in the sewing room this morning. I pulled out the wonky house and just started adding pieces with abandon. Don't know what will happen next with it. Nothing really needs to happen next, for that matter! But it was a relaxing way to spend some time. Tomorrow the borders for the Birds and Roses are on the agenda. Hopefully this weekend I'll get out to some quilt shops to continue the search for shades of teal for DS#1's Storm At Sea. The second photo is from the new Quilt It for Christmas magazine that I found at the grocery store yesterday. I just love the sweetness and simplicity of it and it is now "on the list"!! I have gotten pretty blase about a lot of the quilt magazines lately, but this one really grabbed me. The cover quilt is wonderful, too. It is a Primitive Pieces by Lynda design called Cranbrook Christmas--just stunning. There were several others I just loved. Too many quilts, not enough time.

I am too collecting quotes. One of my favorites just now is:
"If I stitch fast enough, do it count as an aerobiclesson"

That pattern with the birds on is really lovely - I love the way the stars in the border sort of fade into the centre - very clever

I think because sometimes there ARE so many quilts we WANT to make that we forget about the joy in the process-- Moodling is incredible therapy. Sometimes I'm in a horrible mood and Don will say 'go down in your sewing room for a few minutes--you'll feel better'. I'll say I don't feel like it. And he'll say 'after you get down there, you'll be glad you went'---Hey, It's a lot better than being put in the corner for misbehavior!!!!

I like that magazine quilt too. (I think it is the tree that did it for me... - like a big leaf...)

"Moodling". I like that phrase! Seems to capture the spirit of what I've been in the mood for lately. :-)

"Moodling" - hmmmm I like that! I have to say that I truly do enjoy moodling and I agree with Melanie - in the rush to make all the quilts on our "to do" list we do forget the joy in the process. I find myself getting frustrated and this should serve as a happy reminder to enjoy the process. Thank you Vera for moodling and Melanie for the gentle reminder!

Moodle is the name of the online classroom I use for teaching! I see my students face-to-face and we also have an online classroom for assignments, etc. It's like WebCT or Blackboard or Nuvvo, if people have heard of them. It's a fun word and I love the quote. The quote probably predates the teaching/learning platform, but I imagine Moodle might be in the dictionary soon!
I really like that sweet wintry quilt you found in the magazine, as well.

I've heard of "noodling up", but not moodling. I think I like moodling better as a word. I like you wonky house. It's very halloween.

Have fun moodling!

I like the way your wonky house is going--and love the coined term, "moodling"-if that's the case, I'm FULL of imagination! Cuz I sure moodle a lot. :)

what vastly different projects you have there but who ever said we have to stick with the same quilting "genre"?

What fun!

Hmmm... I wonder if she really meant "noodling". Anyway, I really love how your halloween quilt is coming along. FUN!

I was also drawn to that little bird quilt from "Quilt It For Christmas". I think I will also have to put it on my "to do" list.

I love the wonky house and the Arkansas crossroads quilts! Also loved the term "moodling", I need to do more of it. I've been thinking seriously about doing some major damage to my stash by cutting a lot of it into 2" strips. Bonnie's Strip Twist quilt got me going. I want to make a lot of scrap quilts b4 I start shopping for fabric again. (wouldn't hubby LOVE to hear that). EXCEPTION: Quilts or ANYTHING for Caleb!(my coming grandson)

Love the "moodling" quote! Think I'll make a notation of that...perfect..*VBS*

Years back, while up in very nothern WI..the shores of Lake Superior, I came across a book by a gal who taught at the 2 years college at Ashland. It was regarding the word and mood "ambling"...which is a kind of mindless wandering with no destination in mind. She said "Bears amble", and I've never fogotten that.
They go from place to place, eating the wild blueberries and seeking honey trees, bu there is no rhyme or reason to where they go next...I love that idea!!

Great job on having an outstanding PLAY time yesterday..love the quilt piece you show. Hugs, Finn

All these cute Halloween things are making me want to do something a little witchy too. :)

And I like the colors in the Christmas quilt too, especially the stars in the border. :)

I like the Christmas quilt. Very cute, and thanks for the new word. Always keen to increase the vocabulary.

I was thinking the samething - too many quilts not enough time, when I looked at the pictures on your blog, and took a peek at your previous post. I love collecting quotes too, and both of your pieces are lovely. The birds are really sweet.
