Who Was I Kidding?

On my post a few days ago, I commented that I probably had 3 UFOs. Ha ha ha ha! A quick glance around at my sewing room shelves reminded me of several more quilts-to-be. In addition to Cotton Candy, Chocolates & Cherries, and a BOM, I spotted two stitchery quilts--Journey to the Ark and Paper Doll Memories, a star-centered string quilt, an Alex Anderson vase of flowers wallhanging (really old), several assorted kits and sample blocks AAAACCCCKKKK! What's a girl to do? Why, start a new project, of course.

I have mentioned this book on my blog before, Snowbound (1989). I adore this book and think it was the catalyst for my love of prim quilts. I have always wanted to make "Winter Quilt" from the book. (This may be the year of checking off some of those "I've always wanted to..."items) So I traced off onto fusible all the pieces and windowed them out. In the book the quilt is needleturn appliqued, but I am much too slow at that!!! The fusible looks like Swiss cheese, huh?

The applique can come from stash and hopefully, the block backgrounds can too. Maybe by next winter, it will be a snuggle quilt!

Some Goals. My husband gifted me with a MacBook for Christmas. I have been a long time Apple afficionado--having had 3 in the 80s and 90s. Then came the big Drought-Of-Software-Compatible-With-Mac years. Also, my school district went to an all PC format in the mid-90s. So since that time I have owned PCs. They're fine, but there's just something about a Mac! Of course, so many changes have come down, like the Leopard OS that I'll be on a learning curve for quite awhile. It will be a goal to get comfy with this new toy. Another goal will be to use my embroidery module more. To that end I am joining Bernina's Embroidery Club for the monthly meetings and demos. Should be fun. Another goal is to increase the number of items made for donation--quilted, knitted, and crocheted. Oh, there are the usual goals of more healthy eating, less spending on hobbies, more traveling, less kvetching about things out of my control, etc. etc. But these three are maybe actually attainable.

Shout out to Patti on her retirement!!!

I've been working on this quilt for several (ahem) years now. I have about 1/2 of the blocks done. Good luck!

Congrats on re-entering the world of the Mac!! I have one at work and I use the heck out of it. We have a PC at home, I don't like it nearly as well. Once a Mac person always a Mac person = )

Congratulations on your new Mac. Thanks for clarifying the number of UFO's on hand. :)

I like the answer to your question: "What's a girl to do?" It's the right one.

And your goals are great because of course you'll be sharing all you do and learn with us, right?

Congratulations on your new laptop. I love my iBook G4. Still thinking about whether to go to Leopard or not. I'll probably wait until it's been out about a year. =) I went to Mac because all the PC people wanted me to buy what they had, not what I wanted. The MacTalk in Woodland Hills was great! We had them for years at my school.

I love your new project. Perfect solution - you don't have that many UFOs anyway. =)

Woohoo - thank you Vera! Right now would you believe I'm feeling somewhat disgruntled that I have to go in tomorrow - even though I won't be working and half the day is my party? I'm having too much fun already doing just what I want to do!

I've had Snowbound for years too - and hope to make it some day. Your method is definitely the way to go I think!

I tried to make a list of all my UFO's, and ran out of paper....on one list, so I put it on the computer so it would all fit on one page!! Now that is just disgraceful!!but I am workin' on it!

(grins)): it is sure fun...

Enjoy your computer!

That fusible really does look like swiss cheese. LOL!!! You shouldn't look to see how many UFO's you have. Just don't do it!!

I love that book. I think it was the beginning of my love for plaids and primitive stuff too.

*sigh* You've reminded me of a Red Wagon quilt that I have wanted to make for the longest time. Time to pull out the book and get the fabrics set aside.

That quilt is fabulous! Even though I needleturn, I think I would consider fusing this one also. That way I know it would get finished! LOL

Can't wait to watch your progress on it!

Reposting due to my sad...SAD typing and proofreading skills. :-( All I wanted to do was give a big HELLO from one KC quilter to another! So...HI!

OOOH! you lucky Macgirl!

I was in our local apple store and was drooling all around the room. I've got my personal apple shopper to meet me whenever I want-guess I looked like an easy mark.

Those things are very cool.

I've found a few more UFO's also but I'm finishing them up at a good clip so hopefully I'll whittle down the list.

My laptop is a PC but I love it.

I made the Snowbound quilt in 2002. I fused it and it does not look like swiss cheese. I use a rim of fusible only except on very small pieces. I hand buttonhole stitched it. I love the quilt. Will post a picture of it on my blog very soon.

We do have the same style when it comes to quilts. I'll be back to visit again.
