Quilting, What's That?

My poor ole' Bernina looks so forlorn there in the sewing room. If Bernie could talk, I'm sure he'd say, "What did I do wrong? Why won't she sew on me? When will I be king again???" The only time Bernie has been turned on lately has been to do a couple more blocks for the Cotton Candy quilt (see November 4th post) and to make a few burp cloths out of cloth diapers for arriving babies. I know, how rude to treat Bernie that way. Of course, there will be an onslaught of machine stitching binding as soon as the two quilts come back from the longarmer--and yes, they are Christmas gifts. I'm getting a little panicky, well, okay, a lot panicky. I was so sure they'd be ready for pickup by now as I "handed them over" about three months ago. I'm not the fastest at doing bindings!

I have been doing other Christmas things, oh yes I have. After a day of angst over my Christmas card list being lost in the great hard drive crash of '07, I remembered that when I bought the computer a year and a half ago, I had transferred all the files (via Detto) onto a CD. Yay, the list was there. All I had to do was update it. Pictured are the cards I have sent out over the last 20 years or so. I try to remember to keep one for myself. Do you see a theme here? I do adore primitive and vintage Santas. Today's task will be to write messages inside the cards that will go out this year.

And I have pretty much completed decorating my gingerbread kitchen. This little tree looks so happy in there. Each year I just cover it with plastic and store it in the basement as-is. Then next year I bring it up and tweak it and add to it just a bit. Sure saves a lot of time.

Here is the first completed knitting loom project--a neckroll pillow. Boy, did it go fast!! A girl could get addicted to those little looms. I have completed a hat also but want to make a big fluffy pompon for the top. It will most likely be a donation hat.

I think it's time to get busy on more Christmas-y stuff now...

I do love those vintage Santas too...what a wonderful idea--to keep one of your cards from each year so you know what you sent. :> I love your neck roll...wonder if I could find one of those little loom thingys? :) That would be fun to try. I can't knit :(, and I can only crochet dishcloths :/, so I might be able to make something interesting if I had a loom, right? :D

Your Santa card collection is awesome. Do you put it up somewhere like that? It would make a nice display. Hope your quilts come back this week!

Hi Vera, what a fun collection of cards...*VBS* Yes, many of us love those vintage Father Christmas items *VBS* yours are just lovely.
And what a fun gingerbread tree. And a great idea if your kitchen is big enough...mine isn't..darn it!
The little potholder loom brought back memories..I don't remember the jersey loops being so bad, but lately what I've seen is a stretchy nylon stuff...yuk! I've never knit on one of the 'jennys' but it sure looks fun, rather like spool knitting, only a bigger opening. Have fun with alllll that binding..*VBS* Hugs, Finn

Vera,
You are way ahead of me. How did we do it and teach too??

I'm crazy about your neck roll pillow... it's darling. I saw the looms at JoAnn's today and didn't get to close or I would have played with it all day and been even further behind.

I adore the gingerbread tree... so cute... so kitchen.

I started making my Christmas cards yesterday... made one to try out my idea. Need to start over with some tweaking involved.

Have a good evening!
Joni

Oh - I'm with you - those are some of my favorite cards. What nice ones you have chosen over the years! I can't believe you don't have your quilts back yet. Hope your long armer gets a move on things! Sure wish I could come help you with the bindings - hand stitching bindings is something I really enjoy. Your little gingerbread tree is delightful. You must have a big kitchen to have room for that!

What a great idea to save a card for myself. You certainly do have a pattern developing over the years. I wish I'd saved mine to see if I'd bought the same one over and over again...probably did.
