Iced In

Kansas City is iced in today! Virtually every school district has cancelled classes and thousands of homes are without power. Even though it is stunning to look at, an ice storm's destructiveness is one of nature's cruel jokes. Fortunately I still have power, I am stocked up on baking supplies, several small sewing and knitting projects are at the ready, and the cats and I are in snuggle mode! It could be worse...

Enjoy the beauty of the ice storm and hopefully you will miss the destructiveness. Hope you have a wonderful "snuggly" day!

Snuggle up and enjoy it...You're making the most of a bad situation. It is beautiful if you don't have to go out in it.

We can't believe all of you guys are having these terrible ice and snow storms when we have been in the 70's here in Upstate SC. We're ususally in the 40's or 50's during the day this time of year and 30's at night. This weekend it's supposed to change and be very cold. My poor little southern children pray for just one nice snow they can stay home from school for and play.

Sounds like you have the right plan to keep safe and warm . . . hope you enjoy the day snug inside *s*

It used to be so exciting when I was teaching, and they'd cancel school. The problem up here is that they are so used to snow and ice and have every tool, machine, and gadget to handle it quickly. We had 2 snow/ice days built into our contract and many years they never got used. Once in a while we'd get a 2 hr. late start.

Have a nice snuggly warm day in your home and I'll say a prayer for those without power.
Hugs,
Joni

Hi Vera! Oh, isn't 'snuggle mode' just the most wonderful 'mode' to be in...as long as you still have electricity :>, plenty of food, and sewing projects! *g* The ice is beautiful to look at but I've been sending heart-felt vibes for safe-keeping to all of you enduring this dangerous storm.

I've got a pretty good idea what it's like back there right now. Ice storms aren't all that rare here, where super cold air from the interior can come west up the Columbia River gorge. It meets the moist warm air coming off the Pacific and results in freezing rain. We have it at least once or twice every year - much more often than snow. The last really bad one was several years ago - some places were without power for almost two weeks.

Glad to hear you are OK.

Oh Goodness me. Those iciles look like great big teeth! Do keep warm Vera; I hope you gets lots of project time but the power stays on. What a radically different climate than the one we are having a sauna in! We never have snow or ice and rarely a frost ( about 3 in the last 30 years! ) I will think of you when I need to be cool!
