Playing With Pumpkins

A little at loose ends today, I've spent time in the sewing room playing with pumpkins. The cute little pieced background idea came from this blog: Quilt Granny's Shoe. Thanks, Sharon! The wonkiness seemed to suggest some wonky pumpkins (punkins) so I messed around with a blobby shape and came up with this guy. The letters were first located on the computer, then printed off in mirror image. This makes them all ready to trace onto fusible webbing without having to reverse them. Next up, I'll machine blanket stitch everything, add borders, sandwich and quilt. Maybe it will make it up by Fall!!!
Today is my best friend/husband's birthday. Instead of a cake, I got him a blackberry pie. He is more of a pie man than a cake man. I couldn't resist a slammy card which read: "You're not getting old...Hell, you were old last year!" We're not the mushy type LOL! He's three months older than I so I always delight in saying I married an older man!!! I still don't have his gift, but we are going truck-shopping this afternoon. Hmmm...should have gotten him a fishing pole while I had the chance.

I prefer pies too. My favorite thing for my birthday is cheesecake. Kinda more a pie than a cake, I think. Great punkins!

Wow! You're really going to town with those four patch blocks. The punkins are so cute.

BTW, my grandmother, who was a school teacher, would not give us a piece of pumpkin pie until we said "pumpkin" correctly. "Punkin" would never do...no pie for you. lol!

Oh Vera, I'm dreaming (drooling?LOL) of/over Fall...please, please let it hurry and come...I've been working on a hooked 'punkin' that I started last year :>. Your's reminds me of another UFO (shhh) that I have that says the same thing as your's 'Punkins for Sale'. :D Guess I better try to find it and maybe finish it up, huh? Your's is just darling!

The pumpkin hanging is wonderful - great fall piece! Wasn't it fun to create the design? Next thing you know, you'll be selling patterns. =)

Oh dear, I was sitting here just browsing blogs, drinking my coffee, and holding my 4 year old son (he loves to look at pictures on blogs with me - for limited periods of time, anyway but I will take any lap sitting I can get) and he LOVES your pumpkin quilt!!! He has just ordered up 1 pumpkin block and a bunny rabbit costume (obviously your pumpkins have him thinking about Halloween!), LOL - at least I have a good head start on a costume.

Cheers!

This sure takes me back. When my mother used to ask why type of cake I wanted for my birthday I'd say I wanted a blackberry pie. Made from the tiny little wild blackberries that are almost impossible to find any more. so I'd have my pie - with a candle right in the center.
