Rags O' Plenty

A post by Libby reminded me of this bowl made several years ago (like at least twenty!!!) made by wrapping clothesline with torn rag strips. It is still a favorite and serves well as a crochet project holder. I wish I could remember EXACTLY how I made it! See, sometimes I actually FINISH a project!!! Yesterday I completed the crocheted rag rug. It was one of those projects that you really hate to see end because it was so much fun to work on. It finished at 33" x 23" and took 350 yards of the 1/2" strips of batik. It is residing on the floor in front of the kitchen sink. Can't wait to make another one--but I really need to get focusing on Christmas now LOL!!!
I have also managed to sneak in a few strippy snowball blocks each day. I have 36 finished (though a few may need to be remade as I can tell on the design wall that some of those triangle corners are not going to match up well!). Another fun sewing project. I do need to cut more strips and squares today. I also need to shop for more of the three colors---but NOT today. KC had an ice storm last evening and several inches of snow are predicted for later today. Yuck! Me and ice? Not so much.

I love the rug, & I know exactly how you did the bowl, it's the same method I use to make pine needle baskets.
You have been a busy girl!

I love your little bowl. I bet you could just wing it and make another one without the directions. Really love your rug! I'm going to have to check Joann's out and see if I can find some of those strips. I'd like to try it. Your quilt is wonderful too!

The strippy snowballs are so nice and graphic. I like to crochet too, but I have to be careful to just do things that are not heavy. I had surgery on my thumb in April because I crocheted too many afghans and ended up with trigger thumb.

The bowl is sooo.... organic? is that the word? I love it!

Also, the strips/snowball -- right now, I happen to be thinking about planning to commence to begin to make one! How's that for a plan? It's great!

Are you where all that nasty weather is happening? If so, snowy-blizzard-y days are the BEST kind of quilting weather.

Oh my - you still need more turquoise and teal. Sure wish I had more I could send you! This is looking SO great! He will just love it.

The rug really turned out nicely. Can't believe how quickly you finished it! I really want to try this!

I have a large wastebasket size basket from large cord and fabric strips half done and sitting at the back of the closet under the stairs. I can't remember how many years ago I made it. They were all the rage. It was when I was doing bazaars and making teddy bears and dolls. If they are going to stage a comeback I'll have to get it out and finish it!

I've got a similar quilt planned but I'm going to cheat and fuse squares on point over the intersections rather than piece the triangles.

The rug looks great - I'm tempted to make one but I don't need another project so I'll keep it in the back of my mind - how long did it take?

The snowballs are looking great! Makes me want to do one. I have so many projects going, so it will have to wait, but I love the look of this one! Your bowl is cute, too.

I love the bowl. Looks just right for holding your yarn. The more I see the croched rugs, the more I am tempted to give it a try. Now that I know I can buy strips, I really am out of excuses *s*

This bowl, rug and quilt are all fantastic. You should be commended for your craft time-and your dedication to "quality" time with the boys. Is sport quality?

The rug is wonderful. I have those moments where I wonder how I did something...or sometimes when I can't even remember making it in the first place!
Keep your snow up there? We've had enough so don't let it blow down here.
The quilt is really pretty too. We can be productive when we're stuck in the house.

love your rug...it's so bright and cheery! my sister crochets the same type of thing with fabric strips. I received one for my birthday a few years back and it is one of my favorite things ever. I know that she put a lot of time and effort into it.
Your snowball quilt is looking great! Enjoy your quilting weather!
