bbertygibberish with my quilting lately. Jumping from one idea to another, "Oh, I want to make this! No, no, I'll do that. Or maybe..." Just haven't been able to focus on The One. Till now. When we were on vacation in Tucson a couple of months ago, DH and I visited some neat quilt shops. He found a pack of fat eighths in shades of turquoises that he liked. Well, ya have to give 'em one once in a while. So we purchased it, having no idea what to do with it. I was flipping through some old quilting books recently and remembered how much I liked this Country Stars pattern. Voila! A quilt for hubby was envisioned, using his turquoises, some red-oranges, and creams (color wheel, you know).
What I like about this pattern is that it uses snowball blocks and nine-patches with colors and values placed just so to come up with this gorgeous star pattern. I have had a marathon cutting session the last couple of days (over 900 2 1/2" squares and about 60 6 1/2" squares) so that I could eventually just sit and sew--mindlessly. Bernie (my Bernina) is in the shop for some servicing so I will start stitching the blocks on my Featherweight. It is great for just good ole' straight seam sewing.
Hope everyone is enjoying a restful Memorial Day. Ours has been very quiet--just the way I like it!
I like how you use those little bins to hold your cut pieces. I think these are pretty colors!
ReplyDeleteOh boy - this is going to be fun to see come together. Just look at how cute all those pieces look waiting to go through the machine *s*
ReplyDeleteI have that book. :o)
ReplyDeleteThat really is a lovely pattern and you're off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, that's a lot of cutting but it looks like you are set to sew now. I like your baskets all lined up with your squares.
ReplyDeleteI love the moment when you make that decision, the enthusiasm is there, and you just go for it! Your quilt will be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the quilt! It's going to be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the way you use those little baskets to keep your cut pieces organized -- I may have to just give this a try!
Thanks for sharing.
Can't wait to see this one together. I always dread cutting a large project out but then once you get going it is hard to stop.
ReplyDeleteYou sure have a lot of gorgeous quilts here. I'm looking forward to seeing your turqoise and red-orange quilt.
ReplyDeleteSpeedy! You are a flibbertygibbet. I love that idea with the snowballs and nine patches. How fun. Look forward to watching this come to life.
